Brokerage Operations Coordinator
Job Summary:
The Freight Brokerage Operation Coordinator is responsible for managing relationships with carriers, negotiating rates, and coordinating freight movements. This role involves identifying and onboarding new carriers, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing excellent service to support the logistics operations of the brokerage.
Key Responsibilities:
Carrier Relations:
- Build and Maintain Relationships: Establish and nurture strong relationships with carriers to secure capacity for shipments.
- Negotiate Rates: Negotiate competitive freight rates with carriers, balancing cost-efficiency with service quality.
- Onboarding Carriers: Identify, vet, and onboard new carriers to expand the network and ensure adequate capacity for various freight needs.
Logistics Coordination:
- Freight Booking: Book freight with carriers and ensure timely and accurate dispatch of shipments.
- Load Coordination: Coordinate the movement of freight from pick-up to delivery, ensuring adherence to timelines and client requirements.
- Track Shipments: Monitor the status of shipments, providing updates to brokers and clients, and addressing any issues that arise during transit.
Compliance and Documentation:
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that carriers comply with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including safety and insurance requirements.
- Documentation: Manage and maintain accurate records of carrier agreements, load confirmations, and other pertinent documentation.
Problem Resolution:
- Issue Management: Address and resolve issues related to delayed shipments, damaged goods, or other logistical challenges promptly and effectively.
- Dispute Resolution: Handle any disputes or concerns raised by carriers, working towards amicable solutions.
Market Analysis:
- Market Trends: Monitor market conditions and industry trends to identify opportunities for cost savings and improved service.
- Rate Analysis: Analyze freight rates and negotiate better terms based on market dynamics and operational needs.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with sales team, account managers, and logistics coordinators to ensure seamless communication and efficient freight movement.
- Client Communication: Communicate effectively with clients regarding shipment status, potential issues, and resolutions.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Skills:
- Negotiation: Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable rates and terms.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and manage relationships.
- Organizational: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Proactive problem-solving skills, with the ability to address and resolve issues efficiently.
- Technical: Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other logistics software.
