Transportation Planner
Position Summary:
The Transportation Load Planner is responsible for efficiently planning and optimizing the movement of goods to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. This role involves analyzing load requirements, coordinating with carriers, and managing resources to maximize the use of transportation capacity. A successful Transportation Load Planner combines analytical skills, logistics knowledge, and strong communication abilities to enhance shipping operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Load Planning and Optimization:
- Analyze daily shipping needs and coordinate load requirements.
- Develop and execute load plans to optimize routing and ensure cost efficiency.
- Monitor and adjust load plans as needed to address delays or changes in shipping demands.
- Resource and Capacity Management:
- Assess available resources and transportation capacity, ensuring effective utilization.
- Identify opportunities to consolidate shipments, reduce costs, and improve service levels.
- Communication and Problem Resolution:
- Act as a point of contact for drivers, carriers, and internal teams to resolve transportation-related issues.
- Communicate with stakeholders to ensure a clear understanding of load requirements and expectations.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, delivery schedules, and load planning activities.
- Ensure all transportation activities comply with company policies and industry regulations.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze transportation data to identify patterns, inefficiencies, and potential improvements.
- Generate reports to support logistics management in decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field is preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 1-3 years in load planning, transportation coordination, or a similar logistics role.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and load planning software.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and transportation best practice.
