Freight Brokerage Internship
Summary: As a Freight Brokerage Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in the logistics and transportation industry. You will assist the brokerage team in coordinating and managing the shipment of goods, working with carriers, shippers, and customers to ensure smooth and efficient freight movements. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to develop skills in customer service, negotiation, supply chain management, and logistics technology.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Carrier & Customer Relations: Assist in building and maintaining relationships with carriers and shippers, ensuring timely and effective communication regarding freight needs and shipping details.
Load Matching & Scheduling: Help identify available carriers for freight loads, negotiate rates, and schedule pick-ups and deliveries.
Data Entry & Tracking: Enter load details into the company’s Transportation Management System (TMS), track shipments, and update customers and carriers on the status of their freight.
Rate Negotiation: Support the brokerage team in negotiating rates with carriers to ensure competitive pricing and service levels.
Problem Resolution: Assist in troubleshooting and resolving any transportation-related issues such as delays, carrier problems, or load discrepancies.
Market Research: Conduct market research on freight rates, industry trends, and potential new business opportunities.
Documentation: Help ensure all freight documents, contracts, and billing details are accurately prepared and filed in compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by handling inquiries, following up on shipments, and addressing any concerns or issues with professionalism
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong communication skills with the ability to interact with clients, carriers, and team members effectively.
Organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in data entry and documentation.
Problem-solving ability to assist with resolving logistical challenges.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) is a plus.
Team player who can collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Learning Opportunities:

Education and Experience:
Pursuing a degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Work Environment:
Office setting with minimal exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
