Freight Brokerage Operations Coordinator
Summary: In the Operations Coordinator role, you will be responsible for managing relationships with carriers, negotiating rates, and coordinating freight movements. This role involves identifying and onboarding new carriers, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and providing excellent service to support the logistics operations of the brokerage.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establish and nurture strong relationships with carriers to secure capacity for shipments.
- Negotiate competitive freight rates with carriers, balancing cost-efficiency with service quality.
- Identify, vet, and onboard new carriers to expand the network and ensure adequate capacity for various freight needs.
- Freight Booking: Book freight with carriers and ensure timely and accurate dispatch of shipments.
- Coordinate the movement of freight from pick-up to delivery, ensuring adherence to timelines and client requirements.
- Monitor the status of shipments, providing updates to brokers and clients, and addressing any issues that arise during transit.
- Ensure that carriers comply with federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including safety and insurance requirements.
- Manage and maintain accurate records of carrier agreements, load confirmations, and other pertinent documentation.
- Address and resolve issues related to delayed shipments, damaged goods, or other logistical challenges promptly and effectively.
- Handle any disputes or concerns raised by carriers, working towards amicable solutions.
- Monitor market conditions and industry trends to identify opportunities for cost savings and improved service.
- Analyze freight rates and negotiate better terms based on market dynamics and operational needs.
- Work closely with sales team, account managers, and logistics coordinators to ensure seamless communication and efficient freight movement.
- Communicate effectively with clients regarding shipment status, potential issues, and resolutions.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable rates and terms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and manage relationships.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Proactive problem-solving skills, with the ability to address and resolve issues efficiently.
- Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other logistics software.
- Detail-oriented and thorough.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-focused mindset.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Certified Transportation Broker (CTB) or similar industry certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Work Environment:
- Office setting with minimal exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
